Sherrill Miller
Sherrill Miller studied art at U.C. Berkeley and Bennington College and continued art studies at the Laguna Beach Art Center and Design. In the early 1970’s, Miller became disappointed in college art programs, so she pursued a long career in psychotherapy and career counseling. Miller returned to painting landscapes as a way to connect with the environment.
The scenes she enjoys painting are the ones she is most familiar with: the hills, oaks and eucalyptus of the North Bay; and the beaches of Laguna where she spends her summers. She has seen how the population growth has devastated the countryside of Southern California, so it is important to her to paint scenes that may disappear.
In December, 1997; with a small group of local landscape artists she helped to form “BayWood Artists.” Their goal is help contribute awareness and funds to preservation and conservation organizations. They have painted for Marin Open Space, Baylands Advocates, Fish Friendly Farming, Bay Area Ridge Trail, Bay Model Association and other organizations. Last year they painted for the Save Mount Diablo Association. This year they are painting for the Marin Open
Space District..
She has taken classes and workshops from various artists but in recent years is most indebted to Van Waldron. She now teaches beginning oil painting through the Marin adult education program.
Miller’s art work has been represented by the Bluebird Gallery in Laguna Beach; Sausalito Art Collections and the Lito Gallery in Sausalito. She has shown in both the Haggin and Riverside Museums. She has been a long time artist with MarinScapes. Her work is currently available through her the Painter’s Place, various shows and through her studio.
She is a member of several art organizations including California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Association, and BayWood Artists.
This year she is the featured artist for Marin/Scapes.
